BIOGRAPHIE DER MITWIRKENDEN Mario Brunello is one of the most important names in the field of world-wide music. In 1986 he was the first Italian ever to win the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which launched him into a stunning international career. Brunello has played with some of the most prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, NHK Symphony Tokyo, Filarmonica della Scala, Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He has also collaborated with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Yuri Temirkanov, Riccardo Chailly, Ton Koopman, Seiji Ozawa, Daniele Gatti, Myung-Whun Chung and Claudio Abbado. Abbado has, over the years, invited Brunello several times to play with him and the Orchestra of the Lucerne Festival and the Mozart Orchestra. With both orchestras Brunello has appeared as a soloist and also as a conductor.Mario Brunello often takes on the dual roles of conductor and soloist, and in 1994 he founded the Orchestra d'Archi Italiana with which he tours intensively both in Italy and abroad. Chamber music plays an important role in Brunello s artistic life and he collaborates with artists including Gidon Kremer, Martha Argerich, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Yuri Bashmet, Maurizio Pollini, Valery Afanassiev, Andrea Lcchesini and the Borodin and Alban Berg Quartets. In his artistic life Brunello reserves ample time for projects involving diverse art forms (literature, philosophy, science, theatre). In these performances he mixes his traditional repertoire and interacts with actors and musicians from other cultural influences, such as Uri Caine, Paolo Fresu, Margherita Hack, Moni Ovadia and Vinicio Capossela. Through new ways of communication Brunello tries to attract new audiences, creating interactive performances of music, images and words. A large number of these activities take place in Antiruggine, a remodelled workshop that is ideal for these experiments. Among his most recent alternative projects Pensavo fosse Bach is a multimedia performance with music, lights and video images dedicated to the Bach Suites, of which Brunello is considered one of the most masterful interpreters. The diverse artistic genres that Brunello experiments are reflected in a wide ranging collection of recordings which include the Bach Suites and Sonatas by Brahms, Beethoven and Chopin, as well as many other recordings dedicated to contemporary works for solo cello. In 2008 Deutsche Grammophon published a CD with the Beethoven Triple Concerto conducted by Claudio Abbado. EGEA Music is currently producing a record series articulated into five releases dedicated to Mario Brunello: Odusia , a musical Odyssey through Mediterranean culture, Brunello and Vivaldi , dedicated to the cello Concertos by Vivaldi, Violoncello and for solo cello, Schubert e Lekeu with the pianist Andrea Lucchesini and this triple CD of Bach Suites. Mario Brunello began his musical studies with Adriano Vendramelli and then perfected his talents with Antonio Janigro. He is an Academic of Santa Cecilia in Rome. He plays a precious Maggini cello from the 1600s.
