Der bahnbrechende Gelehrte Harry Smith wählte 1952 für seine Zusammenstellung 'Anthology Of American Folk Music', die ausserordentlich grossen Einfluss auf das städtische Folk Revival der Fünfziger- und Sechzigerjahre ausübte, drei jener Aufnahmen aus: The Coo-Coo Bird von Clarence (Tom) Ashley, Old Lady And The Devil von Bill und Belle Reed und Down On Penny's Farm von den Bentley Boys die Inspiration für Bob Dylans Hard Times In New York Town und Maggie's Farm.
