Debussy sicherte dem Haus die Erstaufführung zweier gerade im Entstehen begriffenen Opern auf Vorlagen von E.A. Poe zu, doch starb der Komponist noch bevor er die beiden Werke vervollständigen konnte. In einer vom englischen Musikwissenschaftler Robert Orledge komplettierten Fassung erleben die beiden Werke hier in einer Produktion ihre posthume Welturaufführung, genauso wie es ursprünglich für New York vorgesehen war.
